陈式太极拳一路由于柔多刚少，所以称为“文架”。它的功用主要是应付搭手比武的。陈式太极拳二路由于刚多柔少，所以称为“武架”。它的功用主要是对付暴力侵害的。这只是我个人的推测仅供参考。有关搭手方面的论述我写了不少，目的是让人们了解武术史上曾经有过搭手比武的现象。如果我们不研究搭手，中国武术中的很多谜团我们都解不开，因为现存的传统武术大部分拳法与搭手比武有直接关系。
