俗话说，“好男不和女斗”。由于女人的打斗能力远不及男人，所以才有这么一句丈夫气概的豪言壮语得以流传。那么，男人和女人的打斗能力为何差距之大呢？我们不说男人和女人存在着生理上的差别，我们也不说男人和女人存在着体力上的差距，我们就单论实战经验，女人就比男人少得可怜。在儿童时期，男孩儿和女孩儿都有打架行为，那时女孩儿的打斗能力不比男孩儿差，我小时候就曾被女孩儿打过。进入少年时期，由于受传统观念的影响，女孩儿多数趋向文静，很少有打架行为，而男孩儿的打架行为仍在继续，这就使男孩儿和女孩儿在实战经验上拉开了距离。到了成年时期，男人和女人的实战经验已经是天壤之别了，女人的打斗技法多数还停留在儿童时期的抓挠上，女人的打斗能力远远地落在了男人的后面。由于男人和女人的实战经验差距悬殊，女人就是学了女子防身术也是白搭白！
那么，为什么说空拳是女子防身的希望？也只能说是“希望”。首先空拳是以实战练习为主的拳法，女子练习空拳会在一定程度上弥补实战经验上的不足。再者就是空拳练的是巧劲不是蛮力，比较适合女子练习。另外，太极拳和合气道也比较适合女子练习，但由于实战练习太少，难以弥补女性实战经验上的不足，防身功效微乎其微。也就是说，女子要想防身必须接受实战训练，因为女人的实战经验实在是少得可怜。
